As we all have witnessed, spring came really early this year, and so far, it has been a busy one. We just ended our 2026 lambing season yesterday, with a whopping total of 22 lambs from 6, very fruitful ewes. It was a wooly flurry there for a few days, but so much fun, when you see all those lambs jumping, frolicking and racing around the field. This year, as opposed to last year, we were blessed with mostly ewe lambs, so we will have lots of replacement ewe lambs for anyone looking for registered Finnsheep. These sheep, as you can see, are extremely prolific, have beautiful, soft wool, great personalities, and have the most tasty and tender meat of any lamb you'll ever eat. We offer their wool in our online store, either as roving or yarn. We will also have whole lambs available in November, so don't miss out on some truly gourmet meat!

We purchased a new milk cow in January, and she blessed us with the absolute cutest 3/4 mini Jersey calf, last month! She is such a hoot, chasing the chickens around, and running around the barnyard at full speed, with her tail straight up in the air. Her arrival brought with it lots of fresh milk from mom as well, so we have plenty more herd shares available if you are interested in having raw milk to drink. We have on farm pickup here at our new creamery shed, so getting your milk is fast, easy and convenient! Please contact us if you are looking to improve your health with yummy, fresh raw milk!

We still have Golden Comet pullets available for our May 16th and June 6th batches, so if you haven't gotten your order in yet, don't delay. This breed of chickens is one of the best laying breeds there is, and are sure to keep you supplied with plenty of your own, fresh eggs. They grow fast, May and June are right around the corner, and summer will be here before we know it, so make sure to get your order in soon.

Happy 2026 from all of us here at Vision Farms! We're excited to get the new year off and running! We have been busy this winter with a couple of projects, one being the adorable litter of Great Pyrenees puppies you see above. We had a litter of 9 born on November 11th, and as always, they are just a delight to have around. These up and coming guardians will be ready to head off to their new jobs the last week of January. Please contact us if you are interested in adding one or two of these assets to your farm or homestead. Our puppies are free of chemical inputs, as we use homeopathic nosodes for immunizations, and herbs, homeopathic remedies, and natural food products for worming. They are raised on a raw food diet as well. You can see individual pictures, and find more information by clicking the button below. You can also follow us on Facebook,

Now our dairy herd share and egg customers can pick up their products, at our farm, according to their schedule without having to coordinate with ours. We feel that it is a great addition to our farm, helping with our efficiency and the convenience of our customers. While we all hope that grocery prices will come down to a much more manageable level soon, we know that egg prices are currently not what they used to be. Now is a great time to become more self sufficient and start your own little flock of egg producers. We offer some wonderfully prolific layers, of very large, brown eggs, that you will have trouble fitting into a regular egg carton. Our Golden Comets are pretty little chickens that are docile and easy to handle, free range well, and have a great feed to egg ratio. Whether you are wanting to start a new flock, add to your existing one, or retire a few of your older ladies, now is the time to get your order in. Don’t wait, as these gals generally fly the coop pretty quickly! They will only be available through pre-ordering, so click the button below to get your order placed!

All three of them had a hanging weight of 36# which is roughly going to come out to around 27# of actual meat. The lamb is $10/# hanging weight, and we can deliver straight to you. The meat from our Finnsheep is incredibly tender and delicious. If you enjoy lamb, this meat will be a real treat! They are ready to go now, so click below to start enjoying wonderful lamb chops!

. With all the new wolf introductions, that are getting closer and closer to home, it’s going to be imperative to employ extra protection on your small farm or homestead. Great Pyrenees are known for their very gentle and affectionate nature, but yet they are extremely protective of their charges. They excel at patrolling and keeping predators away from their perimeter, and are not afraid to take on a threat. As always, we are excited to welcome a new litter! Finnsheep lambs are smaller than the average meat lamb, but they make up for that in taste and tenderness. It's described as having a "light and delicate flavor", and you can literally cut it with a fork! It is delicious! The price is $10 per pound, hanging weight, which with these lambs ends up being between 35-40#, with a take home weight of 25-30#. The price includes butcher fees and delivery. Another advantage of Finnsheep is their beautiful wool! We are working on making our wool available as roving, for needle or wet felting; yarn, for knitting and crocheting; or eventually a whole fleece, if you are interested in processing the wool yourself from beginning to end. Here is what the USA Finnsheep Breeders Association have to say about the wool:

"A medium wool with a micron count from 24-31 and a staple length from 3-6 inches, it is suitable for hand-spinning and knitting of outer garments such as sweaters, socks, hats, etc. The lamb fleeces are soft enough to make garments worn next to the skin. It is also an excellent wool for felting and can be used for traditional (wet) felting, needle-felting and fulling projects. The distinctive characteristics of Finn wool are luster and a soft hand."

So if the predators have been doing their dirty work, or you just want to add to your flock, now is a great time to replenish your hen house before winter. These gals will lay all winter, if kept in the right conditions, and will keep you well stocked with eggs for all your holiday baking projects, so plan ahead. Click below to order.

In July, we had a surprise litter of Great Pyrenees puppies. I thought I had a handle on everything to prevent that, but apparently, mom and dad were one step ahead of me:) Anyway, we have 8 little, adorable fluff balls, that will one day be big, capable guard dogs. Pyrenees puppies are so much fun, and they will grow up to be a valuable and beloved asset to your family or farm. If you are looking for a new bestie, you might try a sweet and fluffy Pyrenees pup. Give us a call for more info.

As you can see, we have an adorable litter of Great Pyrenees puppies getting close to needing jobs of their own. There are 8 of them altogether, and they were born November 10th. Last week they started going out into the field during the day, with mom and dad, and are loving their new found freedom! They are quite fascinated with the sheep, buddies with all the kittens, (like the one that photo bombed the picture above), and still a little intimidated by the rooster. These cuties come from a long line of working guard dogs, and not only have it in their blood, but also get to observe mom, dad and grandpa in action every day. Whether you are needing something to keep the coyotes, foxes, bears, and now even wolves away from your livestock, or you're just wanting extra eyes watching over your 2 footed loved ones, these guys will fill the bill quite well! Besides that, they are just plain fun to cuddle!

It's time to start thinking about the laying hens you're going to need this year. The website is all updated, and we are now taking orders for pullets for the 2024 season. We will have them available from April through July, 8 weeks old and ready for their permanent chicken coop. We are only doing pre-orders, so if you need pullets in 2024, please go to our store page to get your order in soon!

We will also have a limited amount of 6 week old turkey poults, ready to go July 13th. They will be the White Broad Breasted variety, and they will be at the optimal size and ready for you to butcher the week of September 16th. They free range very well, are great grasshopper and insect control, and provide a lot of yummy meat! Our favorite thing is to smoke the large breasts for sandwich meat to have all winter, and cut the brown meat off the bone to grind for turkey sausage, besides the one we put on the table for Thanksgiving. Again, these will only be available by pre-ordering, so head on over to our store, if you're hankering to have your own turkeys this year!

Happy 2023! We hope you all had a blessed and prosperous 2022, in spite of all the challenges, and pray that you are ready to jump into 2023 with both feet! We are doing our best to do the same, and thus, we are now taking orders for pullets for the spring and summer seasons. Thankfully, availability of chicks does not seem to be a problem at this point, and we are planning on having an abundance of pullets available. We are taking orders for 4 different pick-up dates, at which time, your pullets will be 8 weeks old, and ready to get settled into their new home: April 8, May 6, June 3 and July 1. We will only be selling through pre-orders, so if you are planning on getting some replacement hens, or are just getting started in chickens, we recommend that you get your orders in as soon as possible. Pullets will be $12 each this year, and we require a $5 deposit per bird. Click on the button below, to place your order today!

Well, a lot has happened in 2020, and we hope you have fared well through it all! We have been very blessed here, throughout the year, as so many folks were seeking food source alternatives, starting their own flocks of chickens, and looking for puppies to enjoy with all the extra time on their hands. Thus, we have kept very busy, and have been able to meet a lot of new folks, during this time when interacting with people has been so discouraged. We are so very thankful for this farm, and thankful that we have been able to share it with so many of you. Please continue reading to see what we have to offer this fall, and from all our family, we wish you the most blessed Thanksgiving. We hope you are spending it with friends and family!

As you can see from the picture, we have a new litter of Great Pyrenees puppies available. It is such a ray of sunshine, every morning, to walk out to the barn and be greeted by all these adorable faces. Pyrenees puppies are so incredibly sweet! They are more mellow, than any breed of puppy I have ever seen, and they just don't come much cuter than these guys. They are currently five weeks old, and really starting to develop their own personalities. Great Pyrenees dogs are a very different breed of dog from most, with their own idiosyncrasies. They can be a huge lapdog one minute, and be fiercely barking at any suspected threat the next. They love to cuddle with their people, sleep most of the day, bark a lot at night, and don't mind ignoring you, if they believe they have something more important to do, like guarding your animals or your family. If you are interested in a large guard dog, come out and get aquainted with them. I'll warn you though, it's hard to leave without one!

We now have lamb available! You can purchase a whole or a half, cut to your specifications. The lamb we are offering is of the Finnsheep breed. They are not a large breed, but are small boned and have a delicate, gourmet type flavor. When processing a lamb, you will lose about 50% from live weight to hanging weight. Then, with bone in cuts, you will lose another 25-30% from the hanging weight to your take home weight. A whole lamb should give you approximately 35-40# of meat, so it doesn't take up a huge amount of freezer space. A whole lamb is $5/# and a half is $5.50/# based on the hanging weight, plus the $99 processing fee. Click below to contact us to make your order. Orders must be in by December 7.

From our family to yours, we hope you had a blessed holiday season, and are ready to embark on this new year, with a hopeful outlook for the future! As we always do this time of year, we are busy making plans and preparations, for the products we will be able to offer you in the coming year. For starters, both of our milk cows have calved in the last month. This means fresh milk! The freshening process for cows can be a bit challenging. Their newly filled udders are sore and tender, and they tend to be more susceptible to problems during this time, such as infections or milk fever. They can be a little more temperamental at milking time too! But thankfully, both of our cows came through with flying colors this year, and we now have milk available. So, if you are interested in fresh, raw, creamy, Jersey milk, click below to find out more about our herd share program, and how you can get milk for your family. We do have A2 milk available as well.

Our schedule is set for our pasture raised broiler harvest. We are only planning on 300 this year. As our children get older, and have their own busy lives to tend to, we don't always have the ready help that we need, so we are cutting back this year. If you are planning to order this season, we urge you to get your order in as soon as possible, so as not to miss out!

Our broilers are raised on freshly ground, non-GMO feeds until they are 3 weeks old. At that time, they are moved out to the pasture in our portable brooders, where they get fresh grass and bugs every day, supplemented with the non-GMO feed, until they are about 7 1/2 weeks old, when they are ready for butchering. Their dressed weight averages between 3.5 to 4.5#. Cooked up, they are tender, extremely tasty, and so nutritious. After you get the meat off the bones, you can make a nutrient rich, delicious bone broth that beats everything you could ever buy in the store. Get your order in soon, and fill your freezer with this nutrient dense meat that you will feel great about feeding to your family!

We are also making ready to receive our first batch of pullet chicks this week. This first batch will be 8 weeks old, fully feathered, and ready to go April 13th, and should be laying by the middle of July. If you are itching to start your own backyard flock, or know of a friend who would like the same, give us a call! We guarantee you will love keeping these chickens. Not only are they calm and easy to keep, they can bless you with beautiful, large brown eggs most every day for their first couple of years, not to mention keeping your bug population down, if allowed to free-range. Check out our website for more information.

We do deliver milk and eggs to a drop point in Grand Junction, or you can pick up right here on the farm. Discover the joy of having fresh, raw milk to drink; yummy, thick cream for your morning coffee or to whip up for your favorite desert or home-made ice cream, or make your own yogurt, mozzarella cheese, creme fraiche or cream cheese. Mix it with some of our free range eggs and create delicious custards and puddings. So many yummy possibilities! Give it a try, and know where your food comes from. We welcome customers to come tour our milk barn, meet the cows and see the farm. Come on out, we would love to meet you!

Gearing Up for the 2018 Season

It is time to start planning for our 2018 chicken crop. The schedule is set for 5 batches of sex-link,

     Golden Comet pullets

. We do these in batches of 100 at a time. We raise them up until they are 8 weeks old. At that point they are fully feathered, and quite ready to take up residency in your chicken coop, or free range in your yard.

These chickens are actually a hybrid cross, usually
between a Rhode Island Red or a New Hampshire Red male and a
White Plymouth Rock, Rhode Island White, Silver Laced Wyandotte or a
Delaware female. This cross produces golden red hens, with white highlights, and cream colored roosters with red highlights here and there. The best part of this cross though, is that it creates a chicken that lays huge eggs and lots of them. They start laying at around 5 months old, they lay almost every day, and will for sure lay through their first winter. They are very calm and like being around people. We were given 2 dozen of these chicks for a wedding present, and we have been raising them ever since! If you are looking for a great laying hen, then get your order in for some of these really productive and easy to keep hens. Check out the schedule of availability on our website.

As hard as it is to do, when a mother beef cow no longer can contribute to the herd, we have to cull her. We currently have a cow in that situation, so she will be butchered and made into ground beef. Older cows like this are not suitable for steaks and other tender cuts, but they do make really good ground beef! Youth promotes tenderness, but age promotes great beef flavor! The ground beef will be available mid December, in 1# packages, for $5.00/#. Our family of 7 generally goes through 4# per meal, with a few leftovers......sometimes. Three big boys and one growing one can really put away the food! Click on the link below, and get your order in while we still have plenty available!

This past Saturday was a hay hauling day for us. We generally go through around 2000 bales a winter, and this load is about 1/6 of that. Two of our boys hauled this from Nucla, CO. The borrowed trailer was too long to get down the driveway, so we shuttled it a pickup load at a time down

Our last butcher day for 2017 here at Vision Farms, was this past Saturday. We still have some chicken available, so if you want to stock up for the winter, now is the time! We won't have fresh chicken available again until June of 2018. If you would like a sample chicken to try before you buy, please contact us by phone or email and we will get one to you. Buying meat is a big investment, and we want you to be confident in what you are buying. These chickens have been raised on non-GMO feeds, and have been on fresh, daily pasture since they were 3 weeks old. The fresh grass does wonders for the flavor and the level of nutrition these chickens will provide. Get your order in today!
We have really been ramping up our egg production this summer. We have added 200 pullets to our flock, and they are starting to really pump out the eggs. We will have loads of eggs all through the winter, so if you would like to have one of the few foods you buy fresh in the winter time, get on the schedule to get your weekly allotment of fresh, free range eggs.

Last but not least we have lots of fresh, grass-fed, raw Jersey milk available. We just had another cow freshen last week, and she is looking to be a better producer than expected so we will have milk a plenty. All of our milk cows are tested for TB and Brucellosis, plus we do a weekly test here on the farm, to check for any mastitis issues with the cow. We have just recently joined the Colorado Raw Milk Association, and in conjunction with them, will be doing monthly testing on the milk for Coliform, Salmonella and E Coli. Colorado is a herd share state, so in order to obtain the milk you have to buy a share in our herd which is a one time fee of $50, and $25 for any subsequent shares, and then you pay a weekly "boarding fee" of $7.00/week per share. That entitles you to one gallon of milk, per share, per week. It's kind of a crazy way to get a gallon of delicious, fresh milk, but boy is it worth it! You can pick up your milk here on the farm or at a drop point in Grand Junction. Give us a call and get on the schedule!

Baby Birds in Abundance

  The baby turkeys have hatched!

The baby turkeys have arrived and are doing well. They have been so much fun to watch, popping in and out from under their mothers. Their instincts are so amazing, knowing right off that under mamma it is safe, warm and a good place to be! The turkey pen had been very quiet for the last 28 days. While the hens are setting they make virtually no noise at all. I knew right away, as I walked out to the pen last Monday morning that the hatching was in progress, because the little ones are not quiet at all. As soon as they are out of the egg and moving around they are chirping....loudly, and mamma is constantly answering them. They grow quickly too. They already have tiny little wing feathers, and are running around pecking at everything and trying to catch every bug that they see. We are very thankful for these new arrivals!

We also received our first batch of broiler chicks last week, and they too are growing quickly. If you haven't gotten your order in yet for some great pastured poultry, do so now! You will be glad you did!

  The Turkey Hens Are Setting!

It's hard to believe, but Spring is upon us! As everywhere in Western Colorado, Spring has hit our farm early. The forsythia and daffodils have been blooming for a couple of weeks now, the fruit trees are blooming one right after the other, the lilacs are budding up, and the turkeys are setting on their nests!

It's exciting to see them start setting, because 28 days later we get to have little turkey poults running around. It is amazing to me, the sacrifice a mamma bird goes through to hatch her eggs. 28 days (for turkeys) of sitting in the exact same spot, staring at the wall, getting up for only very short periods of time to get a little food and water, and then getting back onto her eggs before they get cold. It is a lot of devotion, that God has put into the family of birds, enabling them to procreate and carry on. What a blessing to watch them and see their diligence, doing whatever it takes to bring about the next generation.

These turkeys are a heritage breed called Midget Whites. Heritage breed turkeys are just like wild turkeys, in that they are able to breed naturally. The broad-breasted breeds which are the types you find in the grocery store at Thanksgiving time, are not able to breed naturally, but have to be artificially inseminated. Other advantages of the heritage breeds are that they are much better at foraging for themselves, are a lot hardier, especially as babies, and their meat is very rich and delicious!

If all goes well, we will have a limited number of these turkeys to offer for your 2017 Thanksgiving table! Stay tuned!!

But, thanks to a lot of help from one of our tech savvy sons, we finally have the finished product! Please peruse the entire website, and see all that we have to offer. Of course, due to the time of year, not everything we offer is currently available, but we are gearing up, looking forward to a busy summer! We invite you to visit the website often, to see what is coming up, and we also invite you to visit the farm in person. We would love to have you!

Currently, we are excited to introduce you to our new milk cow, Lily. She has been with us for two weeks now, and is settling in nicely. We got her from a small Jersey dairy on the east slope, where she had recently freshened with her first calf. I don't think she had been around any other animals but other Jersey cows, so it took her a few days to get used to our menagerie. She is extremely sweet, congenial, and loves being around people. She is a good producer, gives lots of cream, and her milk tastes great! We are so thankful to have her as a new addition to our Jersey herd. Thanks to her, we now have herd shares available, so if you are hankering for a glassful of cold, fresh, yummy milk, give us a call and we will get you all set up!
