Vision Farms Blog
The sun is setting on summer but we still have lots going on!

As usual, summer was a whirlwind of busy-ness, with our farm, family and businesses. We hope it was a blessed time of productivity and fun for your family as well!
Lamb
We had an abundant crop of lambs this spring, with most of them being rams that subsequently became wethers, which means we will have a lot of lamb meat available this fall. Finnsheep lambs are smaller than the average meat lamb, but they make up for that in taste and tenderness. It's described as having a "light and delicate flavor", and you can literally cut it with a fork! It is delicious! The price is $10 per pound, hanging weight, which with these lambs ends up being between 35-40#, with a take home weight of 25-30#. The price includes butcher fees and delivery. Wool
Another advantage of Finnsheep is their beautiful wool! We are working on making our wool available as roving, for needle or wet felting; yarn, for knitting and crocheting; or eventually a whole fleece, if you are interested in processing the wool yourself from beginning to end. Here is what the USA Finnsheep Breeders Association have to say about the wool:
"A medium wool with a micron count from 24-31 and a staple length from 3-6 inches, it is suitable for hand-spinning and knitting of outer garments such as sweaters, socks, hats, etc. The lamb fleeces are soft enough to make garments worn next to the skin. It is also an excellent wool for felting and can be used for traditional (wet) felting, needle-felting and fulling projects. The distinctive characteristics of Finn wool are luster and a soft hand."
If you love the fiber arts, please keep us in mind as a source for beautiful wool supplies!
Laying Hens
We have one last batch of young, laying hens, that are 5 months old and just now starting to lay. So if the predators have been doing their dirty work, or you just want to add to your flock, now is a great time to replenish your hen house before winter. These gals will lay all winter, if kept in the right conditions, and will keep you well stocked with eggs for all your holiday baking projects, so plan ahead. Click below to order.
More Puppies!
In July, we had a surprise litter of Great Pyrenees puppies. I thought I had a handle on everything to prevent that, but apparently, mom and dad were one step ahead of me:) Anyway, we have 8 little, adorable fluff balls, that will one day be big, capable guard dogs. Pyrenees puppies are so much fun, and they will grow up to be a valuable and beloved asset to your family or farm. If you are looking for a new bestie, you might try a sweet and fluffy Pyrenees pup.
